How to use GenG Edge

GenG Edge is a diary for your trades. You write down each trade, or it comes in by itself from MetaTrader 5. GenG Edge then does the maths, shows you what's working, and warns you before you break your own limits. This guide shows every screen, step by step.

1. TrackSave every trade in seconds, or let MT5 send them for you.
2. UnderstandSee which pairs, times and habits make or lose you money.

    Chapter 2

    Your home screen

The dashboard answers one question: how am I doing?

    1234567
    1. Your account. Pick which account you're looking at.
    2. Menu. All the pages, in three groups: Journal, Analyze and Improve.
    3. Time range. Show the last 30 days, 90 days, or everything.
    4. Customize lets you hide boxes you don't need. Share results makes a picture of your week or month.
    5. Trades to review. Trades that came in from MT5 and are waiting for your notes.
    6. Your main numbers: total profit, how often you win, profit factor, average profit per trade, account balance and your current streak.
    7. At a glance: four simple boxes, shown below.
Wins vs losses: how often you win, your average win and loss, and the win rate you need just to break even. This week: compared with last week. Long vs short: whether buying or selling works better for you. Best day to trade: your profit for each weekday.

Where you do best, and your habits

    • Where your edge is: your best pair, best time of day (session) and best strategy, and the pair that loses you the most.
    • Your habits: how many trades you take a day, how long you hold them, how often you use a stop loss, and how often you write notes. Green bars mean you're doing it most of the time.
    • Further down: your balance over time, your loss limits, a calendar of daily profit, recent trades, your goals and upcoming news.
TipHid a box by mistake? Settings → Preferences → Show all brings it back.
Like a bright screen? Press the sun/moon button at the top. Profit shows in blue on dark and green on light.
It works on your phone too. See Chapter 15 to install it like an app.
    Chapter 3

    Adding a trade

Press Log trade, or N. Only the top part is required. The rest is mostly one tap each, and it makes your reports much smarter.

    12345678910
    1. The trade. The pair (for example EURUSD), buy or sell, the price you got in and out at, the size in lots, and the times.
    2. Stop loss and take profit (optional). Add a stop loss and GenG Edge can measure your risk. Commission is what your broker charged; swap is the overnight fee.
    3. Instant result. Your profit or loss, after costs, before you even save.
    4. Why did you take it? Tap a strategy and write one or two sentences about what you saw.
    5. When was it? The session (Asian, London or New York) is filled in from the time. Tap the chart timeframe you used.
    6. How did you feel? Tap one feeling. Feeling tired, angry or greedy lowers the trade's grade, because those moods often lead to mistakes.
    7. Two quick taps: how sure you were, and whether you followed your plan.
    8. More details: setup, market type, lesson and tags. Hidden until you open it.
    9. Your rules Premium Mark each rule as kept or broken. GenG Edge then shows what breaking each rule costs you.
    10. Save trade, or Ctrl + Enter. You can also add chart pictures.
Pairs like EURGBPFor pairs without US dollars in them (for example EURGBP or GBPJPY), the form asks for one extra exchange rate so the profit in dollars is exact. If you skip it, the profit is an estimate and shows a ≈ sign.
Save timeThe form remembers your last pair, size, strategy and commission. To log a similar trade, open an old one and press Duplicate.
    Chapter 4

    Your trades and their grades

Click any trade to see all its details. Every trade gets a grade from A to F. The grade is about how you traded, not whether you won.

    12345
    1. The grade and the checks behind it: Did you use a stop loss? Did you risk the right amount? Did you get out at your stop? Did you let your winner run? Did you follow your rules? Did you write down why? Were you in a good mood?
    2. Ask the coach about this trade Premium gives you a short written review.
    3. The numbers: profit, costs, how much you risked, and how much you aimed to make.
    4. Share the trade as a picture and a link (Chapter 8).
    5. Edit, Duplicate or Delete the trade.
Why grades matterA loss where you followed your plan can still get an A. A lucky win with no stop loss can get an F. Good habits are what make money over time.
Trades: every trade in one list. Filter by buy or sell, win or loss, session, strategy, tag or date. The bar on top sums up the trades you're looking at. Export CSV (Premium) downloads them to Excel.
    Chapter 5

    • New trades arrive every few minutes while MT5 is open. Trades you closed while MT5 was off arrive the next time you open it.
    • The same trade is never added twice.
    • Trades that came straight from MT5 get a verified badge. If you change their prices or size, the badge goes away. Notes don't affect it.
    • The add-on can't place trades and never sees your password.
    • Want older trades too? Use Import statement with a report from MT5.
    Chapter 6

    Chapter 7

    Share your results

    2. The trade on a mini chart: where you got in, your stop, your target, and where you got out.

    4. Hide dollar amounts to show only percentages, or hide your name to stay anonymous.
    5. Download image, Share (on phones) or Copy link.
What people see when they open your link.

    "Verified" or "self-reported"?

Trades that came straight from MT5, unchanged, show a Verified · MT5 badge. Trades you typed in yourself show Self-reported. The link checks this again every time someone opens it.

MentorsPremium Want a coach or mentor to see your account? Settings → Sharing → Mentor links gives them a read-only link. You can switch it off any time.
    Chapter 9

Charts and tables that show what's working, what isn't, and what it costs you.

    Premium

A written review of your trading, based only on your own trades. It tells you what you're doing well and what to fix. It never tells you what to buy or sell.

A report for the last 30 days: a summary, five scores, what's working, problems to fix (with how much each one cost), and a to-do list.

    Chapter 12

    Practise on past prices (backtesting)

    Premium

Trade old charts as if they were live, without risking money. It's the safest way to test an idea.

The chart shows one candle at a time, so you can't peek at the future. Buy or sell from the box on the right; your practice balance updates as you go.

    • It also checks the result on data it didn't use, to warn you if a strategy only looked good by luck.
    • Backtest vs live compares your practice results with your real trades.
    Chapter 13

    Your rules and goals

    Premium

Write down your trading rules once. Tick them on each trade. GenG Edge shows you what breaking each rule really costs.

Rules (for example "Risk 1% or less per trade"), how often you follow them, and playbooks: one page for each of your setups.
Goals fill up with every trade you add.
    1. Pick a goalMake a profit, win more often, have bigger winners, take fewer trades, don't overtrade, or protect your account.
    2. Choose the numberWeekly or monthly. Use − and +, or tap a common number.
    3. Add itCheck the sentence, like "Win at least 55% of my trades this month", and press Add goal.
    Chapter 14

    Loss limits (Risk)

Set the most you're allowed to lose in a day, and in total. GenG Edge warns you before you get there. Perfect for prop-firm challenges like FTMO.

The bars turn orange when you've used 70% of a limit and red at 90%. You get a warning in the app, and on your phone or by email if you've turned that on.
    • Daily loss limit: the most you can lose in one day.
    • Max drawdown: the most your account can fall in total.
    • Profit target: the profit you're aiming for (for example, to pass a challenge).

    Chapter 17

    Trading words, explained simply

New to some of these? Here's what they mean.

    P&L
Profit and loss: how much money a trade made or lost, after costs.
    Pip
The usual smallest price step. For EURUSD it's 0.0001; for USDJPY it's 0.01.
    Lot
The size of a trade. 1 lot of EURUSD is 100,000 euros; 0.10 lots is a tenth of that.
    Stop loss
The price where you get out if the trade goes against you, so a loss stays small.
    Take profit
The price where you take your profit.
    Risk
The money you'd lose if your stop loss is hit.
    R
    Your result counted in "risks". Risk $100 and make $250: that's +2.5R. Lose the $100: that's −1R.
    Risk : reward
What you aim to make compared with what you risk. 1 : 2 means you aim to make twice what you risk.
    Win rate
The share of your trades that made money.
    Payoff
Your average win divided by your average loss. Above 1 means your wins are bigger than your losses.
    Profit factor
All the money you won divided by all the money you lost. Above 1 means you're making money overall.
    Expectancy
What you make, on average, on each trade.
    Drawdown
How far your account has fallen from its highest point.
    Session
The part of the day by market: Asian, London or New York.
    Prop firm challenge
A test from a funding company (like FTMO) where you trade their money and must stay within strict loss limits.
    MetaTrader 5 (MT5)
The trading app many brokers use.
    EA
Expert Advisor: a small add-on for MT5. GenG Edge's EA only reads your closed trades.
    Backtesting
Testing a trading idea on past prices before using real money.
    Process grade
A score from A to F for how well you followed good habits on a trade, win or lose.
    Chapter 18
